Richard F. Callahan

Richard F. Callahan, 96, beloved husband of Mildred (Webb) Callahan and son of the late Matthew and Grace (Doyle) Callahan passed from this life on Thursday, October 20, 2016. Upon graduating from high school in 1939 he worked for the Auto Ordinance Corporation in Hartford. After a year there he was transferred to Utica, NY where he worked for the Savage Arms Company as Quality Control Manager and later transferred to Bridgeport, CT. From there he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps as a cadet until the end of the war. Upon returning home he was employed by the Lowe Manufacturing Company in Newington as Quality Control Manager. From there Richard worked for the Eastern Tool Company as a Quality Control Manager until his retirement in 1985. Richard was a member of the Army & Navy Club in Manchester and American Legion Post #102 in Manchester for many years. In addition to his wife Mildred, he is survived by his two sons and daughters-law; Richard and Debra Callahan of Mansfield and Barry and Jean Callahan and their son, and Richard's beloved grandson, Matthew, all of Vernon, his sister Rita Benito of Manchester and her six children; Bob, Kathy, Maureen, Colin, Brian and Janet, his niece Cheryl Meyer and his nephew Brendon Webb. In addition to his parents Richard was predeceased by his two brothers; Clifford and Robert and his infant sister Mae. The Callahan family would like to thank Fenwood/Crestfield in Manchester for the excellent care he received there. Also, many thanks to the wonderful neighbors he had for so many years. Family and friends are welcome to attend a time of visitation on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, October 28th at 11:00 am in Buckland Cemetery, Manchester.
